Greece Sun and lazy days

Kavala

Cityscape: Sun in the shade

Kissed from the sun and loved from the Agean see, Kavala is a favorite destination for bathers, sea food connoisseurs and tourists searching for ancient monuments or solving historical puzzles.
Part of the trade road between Macedonia and Thrace and important port city for centuries, Kavala offers all of well preserved architecture, warm local hospitality, typical babel in the little restaurants around the port, and extended lunch hours.
Strolling in the old town is a real cultural treat. Narrow cobbled stone streets, wind in the shade of old pine trees and creeping roses, leading to the house of Mehemet Ali Pasha, regarded as the founder of modern Egypt. Climbing down from the walls of the medieval castle, we are passing by numerous tavernas and cafes, inviting with freshness and aromas of tasty dishes.
HISTORY, SEA & SUNSHINE AND FOOD & DRINKS are the words describing the atmosphere, of this unique Greek city. Inspired by the greatest chef technique (to use for cooking only fresh products) the small restaurants, all over the city are one of the favorite attraction of the Kaval's residents and guests. Sipping chilled retsina, or iced glasses with Ouzo is absolute delight in the late afternoons.
Secluded beaches and crystal waters, are the other alternative of enjoying your spear time. Go boating or simply swimming is absolute must in the sea awarded with blue flag for cleanest waters in the Agean sea.

Worth seeing

The Bizantine walls and 16th century castle offer spectacular view of the town and port and the Cathedral, built on the site of the earlier church. Also worth a closer look is the Kamares Aqueduct, erected by Suleiman the Magnificent to guarantee the city's water supply.
The house of Mehemet Ali Pasha in the old town is an appealing example of Turkish architecture, complete with harem.
